NEW TO PLATTE CANYON?

As American settlers moved into Colorado for fur and other resources, gold was eventually discovered in 1858. Like many others, preachers came by wagon trains, horses, and on foot to spread the gospel and establish churches. Platte Canyon Community Church was incorporated on February 10th, 1957 as a non-denominational congregation of christians. The twenty-seven charter members were joined by others and soon the need for a larger place of worship was evident. The church purchased an acre of land in Bailey ($1000!) and were given the building which was on it. That barn was renovated and converted into a suitable place of worship. The original structure is still incorporated into our present facility as the fellowship hall.

DISTINCTIVES

COMMUNITY CHURCH

Platte Canyon Community Church is a diverse community of people who come from many different denominational backgrounds while all believing in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We are united around a core Statement of Faith, while welcoming, respecting, and extending grace toward a diversity of perspectives on non-essential doctrines. We are also a church that serves the local community and offers fellowship to anyone in the community who believes in Christ.

COMMITTED TO A BIBLICAL TEACHING

We believe that the Bible is God’s reliable and trustworthy Word to us, revealing Christ as the foundation of our faith. Therefore, we place great value on scripture-centered preaching and teaching.

NON-DENOMINATIONAL, ELDER-LED

Platte Canyon Community Church is a congregational church led by a team of elders, of whom the senior pastor is one member. The elders are affirmed by the church membership and are accountable first to God and then to the church constitution and the members of the church.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Because we place great value on our children and youth, we seek to integrate them into the whole body of the church. We are committed to providing a safe and engaging environment in which non-churched children and youth, as well as our own, can learn about and come to know Christ as their Savior and Lord, guiding each of them as they develop their own personal faith in and love for God.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

God - We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.

The Bible - We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.

The Human Condition - We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed.

Jesus Christ - We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus—Israel's promised Messiah—was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.

The Work of Christ - We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.

STATEMENT OF FAITH CONTINUED

The Holy Spirit - We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.

The Church - We believe that the true church is comprised of all who have been justified by God's grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus gave us two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.

Christian Living - Following the scripture, Matthew 22:37, we believe that we are commanded to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and we shall love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Our love of God must be sincere, not in word and tongue only, but also by deed.

Christ’s Return - We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service, and energetic mission.

Response and Eternal Destiny - We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and will judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal separation, and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.

PURPOSE

Our core purpose as a Church is to reflect God’s love and glory back to Him in the same way that Jesus loved and glorified His Father. We do this by doing what He commanded and making God and Jesus Christ known to all those He gives us. (John 14:31 and 17:1-4).

LOVING EACH OTHER

God is love and we as His Church are commanded to love each other. God’s love lives in us, thus, we give of our lives to one another, as Jesus did for us. Our love for each other becomes our testimony that we know God and believe in Christ’s love and sacrifice for our sins. (John 13:34-35, 1 John 4:7-19)

GROWING IN TRUTH

As a community we will struggle together as one body so that each of us, young and old will become mature in Christ. We desire that all our church family will be firmly planted in the truth and understanding of Jesus Christ as we learn from one another how to love and impact our community and the world through the grace and truth found in Jesus Christ and His word. (Eph 4:13 and Col 1:28)

WORSHIPING TOGETHER

Worship connects us with the presence of God and is at the heart of all we do. We worship together on Sunday mornings as a starting point, then throughout the week we worship together through a constant sacrifice of praise, doing good, and fellowshipping together. (Isaiah 6:1-8, Hebrews 13:15-16)

REPRESENTING CHRIST

As we are made in the image of God, and to be His image, we seek to reflect Christ in His creation, as He is the perfect image of God. We are His ambassadors, representing Him in both character and purpose as we join Him to bring His peace and salvation to our community and the world. (Genesis 1:26-30, Colossians 1:15-20, 2 Corinthians 5:17-20).
